This blog is for VCS Conservatory faculty, elementary, junior high, and high school, who cannot make the regular scheduled weekly devotions. It is to complete the required devotionals twice a week. You must view the two selected inspirational videos anytime during the week and give a comment on the video (at least 3 sentences). Your comments are what counts for credit.
I appreciate the perspective of the unity as a staff in the Christian ethic. That we all have Christ as a cornerstone to everything we do is a major benefit that we shouldn't take for granted. Just as his wife sees the difference in working at a secular job we should also be able to sense a difference with our environment here.
ReplyDeleteScott's message is very apt for a devotion for the beginning of the year. This would be particularly encouraging for a new teacher as they may feel overwhelmed at times. In these instances Romans 15:7 is one to put into practice especially for new teachers and in essence for all the staff. By looking out for others we unify the body of Christ and the organization benefits immeasurably by incorporating an agape love that binds us together in unity.
ReplyDeleteI love this as a reminder on how to approach our classes, our students, our colleagues. I have always loved, and noticed a difference, teaching at a Christian school as opposed to working in the secular world. I also love the emphasis on unity, especially as we are separated into our different worlds of Conservatory, Athletics, Academics...
ReplyDeleteI appreciate his timing of this message at the beginning of the school year. Collaborating with one another is certainly a part of our job at VCS, but serving others is our calling as Jesus-followers. His verse of loving others as Christ loved us is certainly applicable to this message. During His ministry and His act on the cross, Jesus 'raced to the back of the line' to put everyone else first. I imagine if the work environment was centered around putting everyone else's needs, especially students, above our own, that we would truly be able to put Jesus on display for everyone that comes to our campus.
ReplyDeleteAs we all feel overwhelmed sometimes with our workload, challenges, relationships, and time management, it's important, as Scott said, each day to think of each other and how we can help each other out, as well as helping the students we serve. This makes me resolve to look up more often from work, to find solace in these devotions, and to reach out to colleagues when I need support.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to hear from a teacher outside the Conservatory. It's nice to know we are all in this together and share the same goals and purposes. We need to go out of our way to make connections with other teachers, especially those not in the Conservatory. We are all stronger together rather than by ourselves.
