  1. This is so perfect. I just had an assignment that asked students if humility was a positive or negative aspect of a performer. I always have a very interesting variety of answers. I think even for the most confident among us, that it is pretty easy to remain humble because of how often life knocks us down! When we truly understand how lowly we are and how awesome God is, humility is such a given.

  2. Humility seems at great odds with the present mindset of our contemporary culture where "me" takes first place. We are taught about self-esteem but when does self-esteem change to pride? we are constantly being told to stand up to our rights and do not become someone else's doormat. We are the generation of entitlements. I believe though that one can have self esteem and confidence in performance as a musician if viewed through the lens of Christ. How can one be full of pride when standing beside the man who knew no sin. When I came to Christ my confidence in playing actually became stronger. This is because I no longer was trying to prove myself and feed my ego but rather thought performances as giving back to God the gifts he has blessed me with.

  3. Humility is keeping the perspective bigger than we are; seeing ourselves in light of the whole of creation. If we can make a small enough box to live in, we can be the big fish in the small pond, and proud of it. Ultimately, who wants to live is such a confined space?
