Jill's devotion
ReplyDeleteI thank Jill for bringing out that passage from Mark about Jesus getting up early in the morning to pray. I am trying this myself this year as well but I must confess it not has always worked out as planned. I believe though that first focusing on the Lord in the morning sets up the day in a better light. I am also reminded that other faiths (Muslims) mandate that their followers wake up at 4:00 am. However, from what I have observed, this is a perfunctory ritual and I am not certain on the percentage of them who are participating it in a whole hearted way. I was in Indonesia for a month and saw this happen. However, while we are under Grace, nevertheless we should develop spiritual disciplines to help us become more and more like Christ in our walk with him.
I agree it is so helpful to focus the day with a private time with Jesus in the morning. I try not to make it so regimented that it loses meaning, but fortunately I have 45 minutes in the car commuting to VCS. It's a great time to pray for the day.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I definitely go through phases of being better and worse at prioritizing my time in the mornings for Jesus. Of course, I always notice a huge positive difference when I do start my mornings in prayer. The reminder is always good and encouraging . -Chloe Aknin
ReplyDeleteThank you Jill! I try when I wake up, and before bedtime. The rest of the day zips by! I find it helpful to have a memory item on my desk - a bible, photo, or even the Valley Christian logo to look at and bring my thoughts back to God. Thanks, Reggie, for this online devotional!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jill for being so transparent and for encouraging all of to stay diligent in our prayer walk and devotional life. I also often use my commute to center, focus, and meditate on God, but alas, I am frequently distracted by traffic and the worries of the day. I love the idea of starting out with a passage and of course, a song, because it really does set your day right.
ReplyDeleteJill, thanks for sharing with us. It is difficult to make time for devotions with our busy life schedules. I appreciate the encouragement and resource you recommended.
